Additional House Members Co-Sponsor H.Res. 240 – Call for the Immediate Release of Armenian P.O.W.s

Fifty four members of the U.S. House of Representatives, including House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Gregory Meeks (D-NY), have cosponsored H.Res. 240, a Congressional resolution calling on Azerbaijan to immediately return approximately 200 Armenian prisoners of war and captured civilians; and urging the Secretary of State to engage at all levels with Azerbaijani authorities, including through the OSCE Minsk Group process, to make clear that Azerbaijan must adhere to its obligations, under the November 9 statement and international law.

“We applaud the Armenian Caucus leaders and all of the new signatories to this important, bipartisan pro human rights legislation. We greatly appreciate the support of Chairman Meeks and respectfully urge him to swiftly markup H.Res. 240 without amendment.” stated Taniel Koushakjian as Armenian Council of America’s Washington D.C. representative. “Given Baku’s recent incursions into Armenia, a clear violation of international law and norms, the United States must continue to condemn Azerbaijan’s actions, demand the safe return of Armenian POWs and enforce Section 907 restrictions blocking all U.S. military aid to Azerbaijan.”
